Man arraigned over theft of 5,000 tubers of yam, 4 bags of oranges

The police in Ekiti State have dragged a 42-year-old man, Samuel Olawale, to court for stealing 5,000 tubers of yam belonging to one Ojo Olayinka.

The prosecutor, Insp Bankole Olasunkanmi, said on March 20, at about 8am on Oke Odin Street, Ado-Ekiti, Olawale stole the yams valued at N520,000.

He added that on the same date, time and place, the suspect stole another 800 tubers of yam valued at N100,000 and four bags of orange valued at N120,000.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms, promising that he would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Saka Afunso, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to April 13.
