A 19-year-old man, Shafiu Abdullahi, has been arraigned on charges of possession of hemp in an Ado-Ekiti magistrates’ court in Ekiti State.
The prosecutor, ASP Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant on September 22, at about 3pm in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti had in his possession weeds suspected to be hemp contrary to and punishable under Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act LFN 2004.

Counsel to the defendant, Sunday Balogun, urged the court to grant his client bail, and the Magistrate, A.O. Adeosun, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety and adjourned the case to October 11.
