Man arraigned over assault on police officer, farm input theft

A man accused of assaulting a police officer in an attempt to evade court appearance has been arraigned before a Kano Shari’a Court sitting in Gabasawa.

Abdurrahman Isa was sued for allegedly stealing beans from a farm worth over N1 million and refusing to appear in court.

The court ordered his arrest and on the way to conveying him on a motorbike, the suspect attempted to escape, which resulted in an accident from which the police officer sustained serious injuries including a broken leg.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Abubakar Isa, read the charges that included destruction, preventing the police from carrying out their lawful duties and inflicting serious injuries to which he pleaded guilty.

Khadi Kamilu Haruna Durumin Iya ordered his remand in prison till December 5 to review the situation of the injured police officer.
