A 25-year-old herder, Mohammed Abubakar, has been arraigned in a magistrates’ court in Ilọrin, Kwara State, for allegedly hacking a girl, Aisha Mohammed, with a machete over sex.
He was brought to court on a two-count charge of causing grievous hurt and attempt to commit culpable homicide which contravene Sections 246 and 299 of the Penal Code.
According to the Police First information Report (FIR), the case was reported at the Lafiagi Police Station by the Medical Director of the General Hospital, Lafiagi, Dr S. K. Suleiman.
The charge sheet quotes Dr Suleiman thus: “The victim was brought for treatment where she narrated that she went into a bush in search of shea butter with her two sisters, Hassana and Adishetu.

“But they were attacked by the suspect, a Fulani, while the victim sustained a deep cut on her head.”
The case was prosecuted by Ayeni Gbenga on behalf of the police.
The Magistrate, Gbadeyan Kamson, ordered the remand of the suspect and adjourned to July 10, 2023.
