It was further gathered that Ogunmola who was unaware of being trailed by police operatives, reportedly impersonated a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police and told the CP of his readiness to assist him if the CP was ready to part with some money.

In a statement, the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, “The CP who has been familiar with the antics of fraudsters decided to play along with him while he sent men of the Intelligence Response Team to technically track and apprehend the suspect.”

Oyeyemi said the suspect was traced to his hideout at Araromi, Phase II, in Ilogbo area of Ota where he was arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed to being a fraudster who had defrauded many members of the public of money running into millions of naira out of which he built the house he is living in presently,” he said.

Oyeyemi added that the CP had ordered the monitoring team to properly investigate the suspect with the view to arresting his accomplices and arraign them before a court.
