Man, 85, arrested over defilement of 4-year-old girl

The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says it has arrested an octogenarian, Ibrahim Haruna, for allegedly defiling a 4-year-old girl in the state.

The incident is said to have occurred in the first week of January 2025 in Kongo community of Keffi LGA of the state.

The public relations officer of the command, Jerry Victor, who confirmed the criminal act to the Daily Trust in Lafia, the state capital on Tuesday, narrated that the elder sister of the victim raised the alarm when she discovered that the little innocent girl was walking with discomfort and blood dripping from her legs.

Victor alleged that the octogenarian lured the little girl into his room where he perpetrated the act.

According to him, the sister of the 4-year-old girl sought to know what actually was wrong with her and she told her that the old man defiled her.

His words, “The unfortunate incident happened in Kongo community of Keffi Local Government Area of the state. The case was reported to the NSCDC who immediately swung into action and apprehended the 85-year-old suspect.”

The spokesman of the command who presented a medical report before journalists, explained that a medical test confirmed that the little girl was violated.

He said the case would be handed over to the state ministry of justice after investigation.

In an interview with our correspondent, 85-year-old Haruna denied the allegation.

Findings by our correspondent showed that the parents of the minor and the suspected were neighbours.

In another development, three suspected cult members have been arrested by the command for allegedly causing destruction and harassment of residents of Layin Yan Kaji and Super Cinema street area of Lafia, capital of Nasarawa State.

The NSCDC spokesman, therefore, reiterated the command’s commitment to combatting crime and criminality as well as vandalism of public and private infrastructure in the state.

Items recovered from the suspected cultists included two locally made pistols, live cartridges and ammunition, phones, pliers and a pair of scissors.
