70-year-old man ‘defiles 5-year-old girl’ in Benue

A 70-year-old man, allegedly living positively with HIV, has serially raped a five-year-old girl in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

The man, Nicodemus Akeh, a neighbour and close family relative of the victim’s parent, is currently in police custody.

While the abused child is reportedly receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West LGA.

A humanitarian activist, Ukan Krugh, feared that the suspected rapist, who confessed to being HIV positive for the past 20 years, may have infected not only the five-year-old child but unknown others he may have also abused.

Krugh also intimated that the mother of the victim wants the case closed so she doesn’t incur the wrath of relatives because the suspect is related to her husband who is virtually impaired.

Police Spokesperson, DSP Catherine Anene, has confirmed the incident to our correspondent by telephone.

Anene also said that the; “suspect is in police custody and investigation is in progress.”
