Man, 38, commits suicide over wife infidelity in Nasarawa

A thirty-eight-year-old man, Gabriel Iliya Magaji, from Masaka in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has reportedly committed suicide over alleged infidelity by his wife.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Nasarawa State Command, DSP Nansel Ramhan, confirmed the incident to journalists via WhatsApp in Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday.

According to DSP Ramhan, a report was received on Monday around 7 a.m. from a staff member of Crystal School Masaka, indicating that an unidentified man was found hanging in one of the classrooms at the school.

“Upon receiving the report, the DPO and his team went to the scene, removed the body, and took it to the General Hospital Mararaba, where the death was confirmed by a doctor. The body has been deposited in the morgue,” DSP Ramhan said.

He noted that no suicide note was found with the deceased. As a result, the police have launched a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Regarding allegations that the man may have committed suicide because his friends were involved with his wife, DSP Ramhan stated that he could not confirm these claims until the investigation is complete.

Meanwhile, a Facebook post accessed by Daily Trust claimed that the 38-year-old man took his life on Monday after discovering that his friends were frequently having sexual relations with his wife in exchange for money.

The post alleged that when confronted, the wife explained that she engaged in these acts because her husband could not provide enough food for the family. She reportedly used the money received from these encounters to buy food for herself, the deceased, and their three children.
