A 35-year-old man, Badung David Dele, said to have killed his girlfriend, Nanchin Zakaria, on Valentine’s Day in 2016 in Jos, Plateau State, has been sentenced to death by hanging.
The death sentence was pronounced yesterday by Justice Arum Ashom of the High Court Jos, on the case.
Justice Ashom said the court found the suspect guilty of the offence of culpable homicide which carries the death penalty, punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code, Cap 89, Law of Northern Nigeria, 1963.
According to the judge, “The prosecuting counsel has discharged the duty placed on him in the case by proving his case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The defendant has failed to defend his case, and the court is convinced by the prosecution evidence that the suspect is directly responsible for the death of Nanchin Zakaria in February 2016.
“With the evidence before the court, the suspect is guilty as charged and he is hereby sentenced to death by hanging. May God have mercy on his soul.”
