Man, 35, arraigned over possession of Superpower-90 explosive

A 35-year-old man, Babatunde Ogunjimi, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court for alleged possession of large pieces of the Superpower-90 explosive without permit.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, informed the court on Wednesday that Ogunjimi committed the offence on June 30, 2020 along the Ikere-Ado-Ekiti road in Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Leramo said the offence was punishable under Regulation 34 of the Mineral and Mining (Explosives) Regulation 2012.

Leramo asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.  The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His counsel, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise he would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, granted Ogunjimi bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till August 17, 2020 for hearing.
