Man, 34, arraigned over phone theft

A thirty-four-year-old man, Faleye Ayo, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing an itel phone valued at N6,000 and a betting ticket valued at N60,000.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Bamigbade, told the court on Monday that the defendant committed the offence on September 11, 2021 at about 3:10 pm at Irona Street in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the defendant stole the phone and betting ticket belonging to one Ayeni Samuel.

Bamigbade said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012. He asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Daniel  Chukma, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until November 17, 2021,  for hearing.
