An Ado-Ekiti magistrate court has ordered a 32-year-old man, Sunday Afolabi, to be remanded in prison custody for alleged murder.
Afolabi, who is standing trial on a one-count charge of murder, is of no fixed address.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olubu Apata, told the court yesterday that the defendant committed the offence on September 28, 2019, in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Apata alleged that Afolabi murdered a 28-year-old man, Bamidele Jimoh, with whom he had an argument which resulted into a fight and in which the police intervened.
The prosecutor further stated that the following morning, Jimoh’s body was found at the spot where the two men had fought, while Afolabi’s necklace was also found there.
Apata added that though there was no witness, the defendant was a suspect in the matter.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody, pending legal advice from the office of the Ondo State Director of Public Prosecution.
No plea of the defendant was taken.
The magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, ordered that Afolabi be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the office of the DPP.
Awosika then adjourned the case till November 12, 2019 for mention.
