Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested a man, Biodun Adebiyi, 32, for allegedly beating a 30-year-old cigarette seller to death during a disagreement over N50 change.
The suspect, who resides at No 35, Oladun Street, Ikotun Lagos, was arrested following a report lodged at Idiroko divisional headquarters by the father of the deceased, one Adamu Abubakar.
The complainant told the police that the suspect came to his shop at Ajegunle area of Idiroko to buy cigarettes and his son Mukaila Adamu, attended to him.
He stated further that the suspect later came back to the shop and demanded for his balance of N50.
According to him, this led to an argument between him and his son, and in the course of the argument, the suspect descended heavily on his son Mukaila Adamu, with blows.
He explained that the victim collapsed immediately and he was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said following receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Idiroko, CSP Shadrach Oriloye, led his men to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
He said the corpse was deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Oyeyemi quoted the commissioner of police, Lanre Bankole, to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
