Man, 28, allegedly kills mother in Benue

A 28-year-old man has allegedly killed his mother at their residence along Modern Market road in Makurdi metropolis of Benue state.

Daily Trust gathered that the man in the eye of the storm who was known to many in his vicinity as a trouble maker on Tuesday caused the death of his mother.

Witnesses said that as usual, he had engaged one of his sisters in a quarrel which afterwards turned into fight right in the presence of their mother who eventually intervened.

It was learnt that while the fight ensued, the 28-year-old also got hold of a kitchen knife which he threatened to stab his sister with but their mother who stood in between them suddenly slumped and died on the spot.

The deceased until her death was said to be a PhD student of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi (FUAM).

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident gave the name of the man as Dominic, stressing however that he (Dominic) did not touch his mother.

Anene said the man was already in police “safe custody.”

“Information received is that the boy did not touch his mother. His usual troubles at home affected his mother and gave her a health condition that led to her death,” the PPRO added.
