Man 26, remanded over sodomy with 10-year child

Chief Magistrate Court II, Damaturu, has remanded a 26-year-old Teacher, Suleiman Abubakar Shettima in prison custody over alleged rape of 10-year-old child (Name withheld).

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt Hayatu Musa, told the court that the accused person, who reside at Bolawa ward, Potiskum, committed the alleged offense on May 19, 2017.

Musa said the victim, 10 years old, was threatened by the defendant who is also his Teacher at Ansarudeen school Potiskum, and assaulted him sexually on three different occasions.

"You (Suleiman Ali Shettima) forcefully had sexual intercourse with the boy through his anus on three different times inside mosque, and threatened to maltreat him if he inform anybody", he said.

The prosecutor also said the offense contravened section 284 of the panel code law.

However, when the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Hadiza Lawan Musa, refused the plea of the accused and ordered him to be remanded in prison custody until the next adjournment date.

The case is adjourned to June 8, 2017 for hearing on bail application.
