A 26-year-old man, Godwin Matthew, has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly killing his father, Mr Audu, for giving him the head of chicken.
The suspect told the police that he killed his father because he gave him the head of a chicken while he gave his younger brother, a seven-year-old, a bigger portion.
Matthew was one of the 14 suspects arrested by men of the Ondo State Command in September for various offences.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State police command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the suspect left home with his father to the family’s farmland on September 9, 2021 but did not return home with him.
It was later discovered that the young man had hacked his father to death with a cutlass.
The police PRO said the case was reported by Mrs. Christiana Audu at Ala Divisional Headquarters, in Akure.
She said the suspect had confessed to committing the crime.
He told the police that his late father directed him to kill a chicken for his seven-year-old brother to entertain him.
“Meanwhile, it was only the chicken head that was given to me and this made me to kill my father,” he confessed.
Odunlami said yesterday that the case would be charged to court.
