Man, 23, beaten to death over phone theft

The Police in Ogun State have arrested three suspects for beating a 23-year-old man to death over an alleged phone theft.

The trio Ugo Obi, Chinonso Jude and Chibuke Samson, all of MTN Street, Iju Ota, were arrested following a report by one Ajibade Gbenga at Onipanu divisional headquarters.

The complainant told the police that his son, Samuel Ajibade, accused of stealing two handsets, was beaten into unconsciousness by the suspects.

He further reported that the victim was rushed to General Hospital, Ota for medical attention, but was confirmed dead on arrival.

The spokesman of the State Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Sunday that following the report, the DPO Onipanu Division, Bamidele Job, led detectives to the scene where the three suspects were arrested.

Oyeyemi said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Ota for post mortem.

He said the suspects would be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
