Man, 20, arrested for ‘killing’ wife in Niger

The man who was identified as Lawali Danladi was arrested by operatives of Kagara police division

A twenty-year-old man has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command over culpable homicide in Kadaura village, Yakila Gunna district of Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The man who was identified as Lawali Danladi was arrested by operatives of Kagara police division.

The state police public relations officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was arrested after he allegedly killed his wife, one Zulai Lawal of the same address, over a misunderstanding in which he beat up the victim to a state of coma leading to her death on the spot.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have beaten the victim due to a mere argument and she fell unconscious. She was rushed to General Hospital Wushishi where she was confirmed dead.

“Investigation has commenced and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed,” the police spokesman said.

In another development, a bandit was reportedly shot while one AK47 was recovered.

Abiodun said it happened when the police acted on credible intelligence that a group of armed bandits on motorcycles were sighted heading towards Pangu-Gari in Rafi LGA.

“A team of PMF personnel of Operation Puff-Adder 11 were mobilised to the location where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle at Tashan-Barau village, along Tegina/Minna road, as a result, one of the bandits who was later identified as Mohammed Garba of Ungwan Sani, Sabon Mariga area of Rafi LGA was fatally shot, one AK47 rifle and an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle recovered,” he said.

The command, therefore, assured members of the public that it shall continue the onslaught against banditry in the state and called on the Nigerlites to always give useful information to security agencies towards ensuring the protection of life and property.
