A 19-year old man, John Arowosegbe, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for burglary and stealing by the chief magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Arowosegbe was brought to court on a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, briefed the court yesterday that the defendant broke into the dwelling of Olawunmi Tolulope Adedipe on August 8, 2020 at about 9am at Idiagba, Ado-Ekiti, with intent to commit felony.
Okunade further stated that on the same date, time and place, the defendant stole one rechargeable solar system valued at N20,000, property of Busayo Blessing Aribaba, as well as stole clothes valued at N70,000 and bags valued at N3,000, property of Adedipe.
The prosecutor informed the court that the suspect had been convicted of a similar crime.
Arowosegbe pleaded guilty to the charge.
His counsel, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to show his client mercy, saying that Arowosegbe, as a young man, could still be useful to the larger society.
The magistrate, Mrs C. O. Adegoke, found the defendant guilty on both counts and sentenced him to three years each on them.
