Kano State finals of the third edition of Maltina School Games which kicked off on March 16 will end on Saturday, March 19 at the Bayero University Kano (BUK) Sports Centre.
Even as all schools in the state have been invited to participate, only the shortlisted athletes will advance to represent Kano at the national finals.

Speaking on the sporting event, the Portfolio Manager, non-alcoholic drinks, NB Plc, Omotunde Adenusi said “At Maltina, we believe that sports plays a crucial role in the youth development of our country.
“The mark we aim to leave with the Maltina School Games is to give Nigeria’s next generation of sports leaders and champions a significant boost by investing in their athletic abilities.
“The number of athletics champions that have risen from Kano state in the past editions is exciting. We are certain that this year’s edition will be a showcase of remarkable potential from the region.”
Meanwhile, N500,000 naira cash prize, as well as other prizes such as computers and educational tablets, are up for grabs at the track and field tournament.
Winners of the Maltina School Games national finals will represent Nigeria at the World School Games for the first time.
According to organisers of the event, young athletes will have the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, 800m, long jump, high jump, and javelin, as well as board games like chess and scrabble.
The 2022 edition of the Maltina School Games, themed ‘Building Champions, Sharing Happiness’ is designed to identify and nurture local sport talents to represent Nigeria on the world stage.
