Makinde tests positive to COVID-19

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday confirmed that he tested positive to the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

In a tweet he posted on his personal Twitter handle @seyiamakinde, he said though he is yet to see any symptom, he will continue to isolate himself.

“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is positive. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate.

“I have designated Prof Temitope Alonge, a former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully.

“Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe,” he tweeted.

It would be recalled that Governor Makinde was one of the governors who attended the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, penultimate week, where he met with other governors.

The Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) had after the meeting advised its members who attended the Abuja meeting to go into self- isolation or undergo COVID-19 test.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, today stated that Makinde’s test result was delivered to the governor at about 5:30pm.

The news of Oyo governor’s positive status came on the heels of the release of the State’s index case from the COVID-19 isolation centre at the Agbami Chest Hospital, Ibadan, where he was treated, having fully recovered from the viral disease.
