Makinde Presents Staff Of Office To Soun Of Ogbomoso

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, presented staff of office and instrument of office to the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye.

During the event, which took place at the Ogbomoso township stadium, Makinde noted that the presentation was done in line with the power vested in him as the governor of the state.

He said the presentation signified the official confirmation of the new monarch as the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso.

Makinde said, “In exercise of the power, I hereby confirm Oba Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege III as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland. I will hand over the instrument to the office and I will also hand over the staff of the office.”

The presentation was followed by jubilation.

Ghandi in his speech, titled ‘My dream and my Reality’ expressed gratitude to God and those who made the day a reality.

He said he accepted the responsibility as a call from God to serve the people of Ogbomosoland, even as he appealed to the sons and daughters of Ogbomoso to work with him to harness the potential of the land.

He added that the strength of Ogbomoso does not lie in the crown but in the bond that binds every sons and daughters of Ogbomoso together regardless of religion or gender.

He promised that his commitment to the development of Ogbomoso remained unwavering and that he would continue to engage and consult all critical stakeholders towards the actualisation of his dream for his people.

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) in his goodwill message described the new Soun as his close friend of many years.

He added that the monarch had great passion and love for others and had remained a truthful person who would not discriminate against anyone, regardless of social status, religion or ethnicity.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, in his goodwill message, wished the king a peaceful and successful reign, while calling on all Ogbomoso sons and daughters to rally round the monarch.

The Secretary to the Government of Nigeria (SGF), George Akume, was represented by the former military governor of Oyo State, General Oladayo Popoola (retd.), while the royal fathers present included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Olu of Warri, Oba Ogiame Atuwatse, Oluwo of Iwo, Timi of Ede, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Orangun of Oke Ila, and other eminent personalities.
