Major General Wali dies at 68

Major General Suleiman Isa Wali (retd) has died at the age of 68 after a protracted illness.

The deceased who was admitted into 44 Division’s Hospital, Kaduna on the day he turned 68 died a few days after, leaving behind his aged mother, Hajiya Zainab Dasuki, wife and six children made up of three boys and three girls.

According to Amina, the daughter of the late major general, her late father died a few days after he lost his closest cousin, Kabir Mukhtar.

She said he was buried at Wali cemetery in Yakasai Quarters in Kano State based on his mother’s insistence.

The daughter described her late father as her best friend and ally who left behind an irreplaceable vacuum in the lives of his children, relatives, friends and many others. “My late father had been a straight forward person who saw no good in accumulating wealth but he made sure we lacked nothing. He was a man of integrity and honesty, we will miss him a lot,” she said.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the death of Major-General Sulaiman Isa Wali (retd).

In a statement issued and signed by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the president described the late Wali as “A very nice gentleman, a calm and dedicated officer who rendered his valuable service to the people of Nigeria in various capacities in the Nigerian Army.”

President Buhari, in a message to the sister of the deceased and his Special Adviser on Social Investments, Mrs Maryam Uwais, the Wali dynasty and the government and people of Kano State, said the late Wali dedicated his entire life to the Army for which he should not be forgotten.

He prayed to the Almighty God to grant eternal peace to the departed soul, and bestow strength to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss.
