The Maiyaki (Estu) of Kupa, Alhaji Mohammadu Kabir Isah (11), the custodian of Kupaland has died after over 42 years on the throne.

He died in a private hospital in Bida, Niger State capital on Sunday.

The late monarch became the traditional ruler of Kupaland on October 2, 1979.

Until his death, he was the vice chairman of the Lokoja Traditional Council and the custodian of the culture of Kupa land.

The late king was a respected traditional ruler in Nupeland and a close adviser to the Emir of Bida, Etsu Nupe.

The Mayaki of Kupa Alhaji Muhammadu Kabiru  Issa (II) was among the traditional rulers elevated to first class status three years ago.

He received his Staff of Office from Governor Yahaya Bello.

He is survived by wives, children, grandchildren, nephews and grandnephews, among whom are Ambassador Adamu Isa, Dauda Kabir Isa, a pharmacist; Malam Umar Kabir Isa, Hauwa Isa, Hajara Isa and Malam Abdulmalik Suleiman.

He has since been buried in Abugi Kupa, Lokoja LGA, according to Islamic rites.
