Kaduna State renowned Islamic scholar, Dr Ahmad Gumi has described the death of Chief Imam of Maiduguri Road Juma’at Mosque Kaduna, Alkali Dahiru Lawal Abubakar, as a great loss to Muslim ummah in the state.

Daily Trust reported that the chief imam who died on Wednesday after a brief illness at the 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, at the age of 52 was until his death an Upper Sharia Court Judge in Makarfi Local Government Area of the state.

Gumi, who led the funeral prayer amidst the crowd, said he was always worried each time a scholar died.

He said getting a replacement remained a challenge when a scholar died “because they help to stabilise the nation and educate the people.”

Gumi said, “He was the son of a renowned scholar, late Sheikh Lawal Abubakar. May Allah forgive them both and grant them jannatul firdausi”.

The deceased’s younger brother and a former Editor of Daily Trust newspaper, Malam Nasiru Lawal Abubakar described the deceased as a father, saying he took over their father’s role as the chief imam of the mosque years ago.

“He was like a father to us even though he was not the eldest child in the family but because he took over our father’s role, we all saw him as a father. May Allah grants him jannatul firdausi, amin,” he simply said.

Hundreds of sympathisers visited the deceased family house located along Maiduguri Road, Kaduna North Local Government Area to console them.
