Police in Maiduguri, Borno State have said the murder case in which a mother of two kids was allegedly stabbed to death is being given the maximum attention.

Hafsat Modu, a housewife was said to have been stabbed multiple times in her home at Bayan Texaco, a suburb of Maiduguri, by her neighbour, one Amina, also a mother and housewife.

Police spokesman, Deputy Superintendent, Edet Okon said Amina committed the crime alone and has since been arrested and detained. He said detectives are coordinating an in-depth investigation and securing necessary evidence to determine the cause of death and gain a conviction adding that the  suspect might be charged with homicide.

A witness close to the crime scene, who prefers anonymity, said the knife attack happened in the wee hours of Wednesday, May 19, while the deceased was lying in her bed.

According to the witness, the two women whose husbands were related by blood were earlier at loggerheads on an issue involving their kids.

“The disagreement was settled with the intervention of some elders and the deceased in particular agreed to end the dispute. The accused does not seem to have heeded to the advice of the elders because she did not participate in the negotiation,” the source said.

The witness further said the accused went into the victim’s house in the morning and fatally stabbed her before she returned to her house.

“The victim was stabbed several times with a sharp knife and was left with wounds in the chest and stomach as well as deep cuts in the leg and hand and died from having lost too much blood,” he said.

He said the case was widely known in the neighbourhood and residents lie in wait for the outcome of the police probe.
