Several distinguished Africans have been nominated for the 2024 Africa Leadership Awards in recognition of their performance record in various relevant areas of sustainable development. Four of the nominees come from the West Africa region out of which three are from Nigeria.

Former President of Ghana and frontline candidate in the forthcoming Presidential election, His Excellency John Mahama was nominated for the good governance category in recognition of the economic management and reforms he carried out while in office.

Nigeria’s first lady Senator Remi Tinubu was nominated for the Women Leadership and Empowerment Category in recognition of her diverse empowerment initiative and worthy examples to the girl child.

Others include Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who was nominated for the Climate Leadership/Renewable Energy category in recognition of the deployment of several renewable energy and climate-friendly projects implemented under his leadership.

In contrast, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal was nominated for the Infrastructure category to applaud his commitment to resilient infrastructure development in his home state.

The Africa Leadership Award is a glamorous event that recognizes, highlights and celebrates performing leaders and achievers across the continent who have shown the capacity to cause change in their communities by contributing to visible and verifiable sustainable development efforts.

Speaking on the nomination, a representative of the organizers of the Award, Dr. Aalok Pandit, confirmed the receipt of the nominations and affirmed that they will be given due consideration among other nominees.

The award winners will be selected by a high-profile international jury who will consider all the nominations against agreed professional criteria.

Winners will be announced and honoured in a high-level event that will be held on the 12th of December in Mauritius.
