Magu: I won’t appear before Salami panel – Malami

The Attorney General the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, says he will not appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry probing allegations of corruption against suspended chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

Malami, in a statement on Thursday by his spokesman, Umar Gwandu, said the terms and wordings of invitation extended to him by the panel ran contrary to the constitutional provisions.

He had on September 9 expressed his readiness to appear before the panel.

But he noted yesterday that his personal appearance at the panel is a constitutional matter and his absence had no ulterior motives.

Magu’s team had, in a letter, alleged that Malami, subpoenaed by the panel, was in disobedience by not appearing to “substantiate the allegations he leveled against Magu in the memo he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari which was the basis upon which the Judicial Commission of Inquiry was set up by the president.”
