An indigenous company, Mabon Nigeria Limited, says it has contributed 401 gigawatts of power to the national grid, through the newly inaugurated Dadin-Kowa hydropower plant.
The managing director of the company, Engineer Richard Madubunyi, disclosed this at the weekend in Gombe, during the inauguration of the 40 megawatts Dadin-Kowa hydropower plant.
He said the power plant has since its completion in December 2021, contributed 401 gigawatts of power to the national grid.
“We aim to generate even more power for the people and industries in Nigeria. We will also continue to contribute power to the national grid with an annual total generation capacity of 240,000 Megawatt hours,” Madubunyi said.
He added that the completion of the Dadin Kowa Hydropower is a testament to the power of collaboration. “It took a great deal of effort and resources from different stakeholders to ensure the success of this project.
“As the sole concessioner and operator of the Dadin-Kowa Hydroelectric 40mw power plant, we at Mabon, are proud to celebrate this historic occasion with the nation, after 20 years of investments, sheer hard work, and perseverance,” he said.
Engr. Madubunyi further stated that his company is currently working to increase irrigation water supply from 3,000 hectares to 5,000 hectares by the Dadin-Kowa Dam.
Inaugurating the power plant, Minister for Water Resources, Suleiman Hussaini Adamu, said the federal government signed a concession agreement with Mabon Nigeria Limited to design and construct the hydropower-generating component of 40MW.
“The power station comprises two 20MW hydropower turbine generators, transmission stations, transformers, 123KV switching station among other equipment.
“The plant will bring industrialization, promote the medium-scale industry as well as employment generation around the area. Already, inspection testing and certification of the units of the power plant has been completed, making the power ready for usage,” he said.
