MAAUN hosts maiden matriculation in Kano with 1001 students

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), one of the new private universities in Kano state, has held its maiden matriculation ceremony with 1001 students.

The students were matriculated on Monday into the School of Social and Management Sciences, School of Nursing Sciences, School of Health Sciences and School of Computing.

Delivering his address, the President of MAAUN, Professor Mohammad Israr, said while the University takes pride in training students in academic work, it is focused on the character development of students so they will contribute meaningfully to developmental discourses across the globe.

“Our goal at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano is to raise godly men and women who will dominate in their various fields of endeavour.”

He, therefore, counsels the matriculating students to follow the footsteps of their lecturers and embrace self-discipline, self-care, a good mode of dressing and faithfulness to their studies, and general comportment within and outside the campus while being ambassadors of the University.

The Founder and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who spoke on the history and activities of his foundation pointed out that the Foundation had been in the promotion of education across the African continent and has so far offered 1,500 Scholarships to individuals to study higher education at various levels to include 850 Undergraduates, 450 Master’s degree and 200 Ph.D. across Africa, Asia, Europe, and America.

“We stand at the threshold of providing an ideal environment for intellectual pursuit as an institution to irrigate and nurture our fertile minds, to push the frontiers of human thought, illuminate man’s existence and create understanding and progress in all human endeavors,” he said.

Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna while congratulating both the institution and the matriculating students assured of the state government’s support.
