Voter turnout in Gombe for governorship and state legislator polls has been described as lower compared to March 28 polls for presidency and federal legislature.
Correspondents in Gombe say voter apathy has set in after presidential polls.
One said his interest was in who becomes the president and that of “governorship election will take care of itself.”
“I care less who becomes the governor of Gombe state,” he said to Daily Trust.
Elections officials were seen at polling units across Gombe metropolis as early as 7am ready for work and people were seen on queue waiting for the commencement of accreditation.
By 8am at most of the polling units visited by our correspondent, accreditation have already commenced at most of the polling units.
Despite the ban on quasi uniform men not to wear uniforms during elections by the police, members of Gombe state marshal were seen in uniform in Gombe.
They said they were acting on directive by the state government to be at all polling units.
“We are doing the work of the governor and we were told that if we did not wear uniform and come to polling units we will not be paid our salary,” said one of the marshals who refused to be named.
