Lost Beatles guitar sells for $2.9 million at auction

A 12-string guitar originally played by Beatles members, John Lennon and George Harrison, thought to be lost for over six decades, was auctioned online for a stunning $2.9 million.

According to California-based auction house, Julien’s Auctions, the band’s 1965 acoustic Framus “Hootenanny” was used in recordings, sessions, and performances of songs such as “Help!,” “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away,” and “It’s Only Love.”

This transaction sets a new record for the most expensive Beatles guitar ever sold, exceeding the previous record held by a 1962 Gibson J-160E, used by Lennon for records including “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” which sold for $2.4 million at Julien’s in November 2015.
