One of the foremost outdoor advertising firms in Nigeria, Lona Global Resources made history by installing the biggest outdoor advertising billboard in Africa at Abuja in Nigeria.
Located in the ever busy Abuja Airport Road by Lugbe interchange, the board measures 30 by 90 meters, the managing director of the company, Mr Idoko Kingsley Ilonah said.
At the site also, Lona is providing a park where people can enjoy Wi-Fi services in collaboration with MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd at discounted rate amongst other recreational services.
Mr Ilonah said the firm is going beyond business and giving social benefits to the community as part of their corporate social responsibility. “Apart from our Bill Board, the beautification of the site with a park is adding value to the FCT scenery,” he said.
Lona which started business in 2006 with only one LED billboard opposite Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Maitama Abuja can now boast of over 100 billboards across the country with over 60 of them located in Abuja.
Mr Ilonah said it is targeting for Abuja to host the biggest billboard in the world very soon.  The growth of the company in the last 10 years happened with challenges, especially on its victimization from 2010 to 2013 where the pioneer LED billboard (first in Nigeria) at Transcorp Hilton junction was illegally removed for political reasons, thus depriving the firm of its major source of income.
The actualization of the board was conceived five years earlier and was supported by its staff members at the Department of Outdoor and Signage’s (DOAS), Consultant and contractors and MTN Nigeria Communication.
The consultant and contractors that worked on this project include Niverfer Steel Construction Co. Ltd (Nigeria), C & S Projects (South Africa), Maydal Engineering (Nigeria), Lona said.
