Local manufacturers being frustrated – Erisco CEO

The President/CEO of Erisco Foods, Chief Eric Umeofia has accused the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of sabotaging the efforts of local manufacturers in the country.

He stated this at Erisco Foods Customer Forum and Award day in Lagos where he doled out hundred million naira to some distributors.

The CEO stated that the company has not been able to access loans despite the provision for manufacturers’ loans.

“I have not gotten one naira from the manufacturers’ loan, it is sweet to say but the practical aspect is zero, maybe they are giving it out to pseudo manufacturers” he said.

He added that some cabals in the government are holding the economy back and will do anything to frustrate local manufacturers.

“They have made sure that the Central Bank did not give us a single dollar in the last ten years, thinking we will close down, but thank God I am among the few people that made money abroad and brought it back to my country, because I love my country.

“I want us to be better than America, God has given us the zeal and talent, the government is thinking well but the MDAs at the middle level don’t want to see us progressing, because if we progress it will soil their business, directly or indirectly” he stated.

He however expressed confidence in the new government to take the manufacturing sector to the Promised Land.

On the award to distributors, he stated that the idea was to spread wealth among Nigerians and also boost patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods.

“Believe in us and believe in yourself, patronise Made-in-Nigeria goods and this country will move together,” he added.

A beneficiary named Blessing and Co Investment Limited based in Agege, Lagos, which won the sum of N3m stated that Erisco has continued to improve daily, saying, “The tomato gives you what you are looking for, not those filled with colouring and the end result is very okay.”
