The Team Manager of Lobi Stars, Barnabas Imenger has said the club is working assiduously to succeed in next year’s CAF Champions League.
The League Management Company, LMC, had announced Lobi Stars champions of the league at week 24 of the 2018 NPFL season.
According to the league organisers, the premature end of the season was due to the then crisis in Nigerian football which made it practically impossible for the league to continue and end within the deadline given by the Confederation of African Football.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Daily Trust on his team’s preparation for the continental challenge, the former international said Lobi Stars are doing everything possible to avoid past mistakes.
He said in the past five years, no Nigerian club has reached the group stage in the Champions League, a dismal record he said Lobi Stars will try to avoid.
Imenger therefore said with the necessary support from the government of Benue State, Lobi Stars would be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria in the continent.
“Lobi Stars are doing everything possible to avoid mistakes of the past. By this I mean, we are not going to make the mistake of completely overhauling the team.
“We are not doing that. We are bringing in few good players to strengthen our weak positions so that we can have a balanced team.
“It is an open secret that most clubs drop almost the entire team as they go for new players. When you do that there will be no understanding and consistency.
“That is one of the greatest problems of Nigerian clubs in the continent. So we have decided not to go that way. We shall handle things professionally,” he said.
