Lobi draw won’t deny Wikki league title, says Mubarak

Wikki Tourists striker, Mubarak Umar has said the 1-1 draw his team played against visiting Lobi Stars of Makurdi will not stop the Bauchi Tourists from winning this year’s Nigeria Professional Football League title.
Lobi on Wednesday proved bookmakers wrong when they forced the league leaders to a 1-1 draw at the Tafawa Balewa stadium Bauchi.
In a chat with SHOT!, the former Zagbayi FC striker said Wikki are working hard to win their first league title and nothing will derail them.
He said although they wanted the maximum points against Lobi, God had destined that the match would end in a draw so there was nothing they could do to change the will of God.
Umar maintained that Wikki dominated play but the goals refused to come which paved way for Lobi Stars to run away with a draw.
“It is unfortunate that we could not pick the maximum points against Lobi. They were lucky to run away with a point. That is the will of God and we cannot change it.
“We did our best but the goals refused to come. We are moving on from there. Our midweek match is against Enyimba in Port-Harcourt.
“Our aim is to beat Enyimba and pick the three points. After that we would be in Makurdi to play Nasarawa United. We are also hoping to beat Nasarawa to stretch our lead,” he said.
Umar who has contributed three goals to Wikki’s campaign this season said he was held back by injury but now that he is back, he will add to his tally.
He said “I had an ankle injury which took long to heal but it is okay now. I have regained my fitness so let’s see what I will do in the remaining matches.
“Three goals are not enough for me. I am a striker so I have to do better than that. I was really sad that I could not play any role in some of the crucial matches that we played”.
