The Action Aid Nigeria (AAN) has raised the alarm over the rate at which state governors, especially outgoing one, are taking loans and spending money.

Deputy Chair Board, AAN, Mac Imoni Amarere, asked the anti-corruption agencies to swing into action.

He spoke in Abuja weekend during the state-of-the-nation briefing by the General Assembly of the organisation and award ceremony of some retired board members in Abuja weekend.

“The anti-graft agencies should be alive to their responsibilities. We can all see the second term governors embarking on spending and loans less than one year to the end of their tenure,” Amarere said.

Country Director, AAN, Ene Obi, lamented the rising debt profile of Nigeria by all tiers of government.

She said it was wrong to put the present and future generations in “debt bondage”.

Convener, AAN General Assembly, Hassana Yahaya Bello, said: “The unabating insecurity in the country poses a drawback to the progress being made by Nigeria in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.”
