Living condition of Benue IDPs not acceptable – IOM

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), on Thursday said the living condition of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State was not acceptable.

The Chief of Mission, Laurent De Boeck, said this during the launch of the Rapid Response Fund (RRF) in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

De Boeck said the RRF was a life-saving multi-sectoral intervention aimed at supporting the crisis-affected populations, adding that it was first launched in North Central, starting with Benue State.

He explained that with the approval of the state government, they collated IDPs’ data in the state, not only to know their number but also to identify their needs and those of their host communities for effective support.

John Anisa, the Rapid Response Fund programme manager, said a total of 213,640 persons would benefit from different aspects of the programme, including building 6,500 emergency shelters for the displaced persons.
