- Italian man working in Nigeria flew into the country on February 25 and travelled from Lagos to Ogun. Two days later, on February 27, he tested positive for coronavirus. He became the index case for Covid-19, the first case of the disease, in Nigeria.
- A total of 217 contacts were linked to the index case. Of the 217, 45 travelled out of Nigeria and 172 are presently in Nigeria. Of the 172 contacts currently in Nigeria, 69 are in Lagos, 40 in Ogun and 52 in other States, with 11 in unknown locations.

- On March 18, officials confirmed five new cases of Covid-19 within 36 hours, bringing the total to 8.
- Of the five, three arrived from the US—including a mother and her six-week-old child. The child is the youngest Covid-19 patient on record in Nigeria. The third patient is an American who crossed land border, thus the first Covid-19 that did not arrive by air.
- The remaining two of the five are Nigerians.
