Lightning kills 8-year-old pupil in Bayelsa

Tragedy has struck Imiringi community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State following the striking to death of a JSS1 pupil by lightning on Thursday.

The pupil, identified as Stephen Akanama, was struck to death while playing a football match under the thunderstorm that accompanied a heavy downpour.

The deceased was a pupil of Matha Day Secondary School located in Immirrigi community.

An eyewitness told Daily Trust that the deceased was trying to retrieve the ball from across the land used as a football field when he was struck by the lightning.

When contacted, the spokesman for the State Police Command, SP Asimin Butswat, said the incident has not been reported at the Kolo Divisional Headquarters that is covering the area.
