A Liberia based businesswoman, Ebere Edith Okafor, has been sentenced to three years in prison for trafficking 600 grams of cocaine.
Ebere was given the jail term by Justice Daniel Osiagor on Friday after she pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of unlawful exportation of the banned drug brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
The judge, however, ordered the convict to pay the sum of N600,000 place of the jail term.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Augustine Nwagu, told the court that the defendant was arrested with the drug on July 31, 2021, at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers on an Air Cote d’Ivoire flight to Liberia.
