Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has declared today, Friday as public holiday ahead of tomorrow’s local government election in the state.
In a live broadcast Thursday, the governor said adequate arrangements had been concluded for the conduct of free, fair, peaceful and credible elections in the 11 LGAs.

He said the public holiday was declared to enable people visit their towns and villages to vote for candidates of their choices during the election.
Governor Yahaya urged the state Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) to ensure justice, equity and fairness in the conduct of the election on Saturday.
He also warned politicians in the state to avoid any action that may result in violence during and after the election.
“As part of our responsibility to ensure peaceful elections, we have mobilised security agencies to ensure voters and election officials are accorded the necessary protection to vote in peace and tranquility.
“Our administration has zero-tolerance for violence or any election-related crime. I, therefore, call on all stakeholders to desist from any act that will endanger the lives and property of our people.
“No political ambition is worth the blood of any Gombe citizen and my administration will deal decisively with any troublemaker no matter how highly placed,” he said.
