Ahead of the local government elections scheduled to hold in Borno today, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the process as an exercise in futility.
However, the All Progressive Congress (APC) lauded the process and expressed confidence in the neutrality of the State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSEIC).
At a press conference in Maiduguri yesterday, the APC chairman in the state, Bello Ayuba said they had fielded both chairmanship and councillorship candidates to face the opposition parties across the 27 LGAs of the state.
But in his reaction, state chairman of PDP, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama, berated the state’s electoral body (BOSEIC) saying it lacks the capacity to conduct a free and fair election.

Zanna said their position as a party was to boycott the exercise but some party members insisted to “gamble” with their money by contesting in four LGAs.
“A situation where chairmanship and councillorship forms were sold at N500,000 and N250,000 despite the harsh economic reality; no candidate would want to go and waste money knowing full well that the results of the elections had already been written by the BOSIEC”, he said.
But the Executive chairman BOSIEC, Alhaji Lawan Maina has assured of conducting a credible election.
