The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has appointed 130 special assistants to help drive his administration.
He announced this in a post on his verified X, saying the appointees must serve diligently. Some of the appointees are Helen Nyekwere, Josephine Wogu, Daisy Worgu, Wagwu Hilda, Ogbonna Stella, Goodness Ogbonna, and Grace Amadi.
Daily Trust reports that the trend of local government chairmen appointing a large number of aides is gradually gaining traction in the country.
A few days ago, the chairman of Nasarawa LGA in Kano State, Yusuf Imam, popularly known as ‘Ogan Boye’, approved the appointments of 60 aides to serve in various capacities in the LGA.

The approval letter signed by the Local Government Secretary, Ado Muhd Hotoro, said the appointments were part of the chairman’s efforts to promote and develop the local government.
Recall that in July 2024, when he was caretaker committee chairman of Obio-Akpor LGA, Ihunwo appointed 100 special assistants.
In October of the same year, he scrubbed off the name of former governor of the state and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from the administrative block of the council secretariat.
Daily Trust reports that Wike hails from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor LGA of the state, but the LG chairman is an ally of the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who is at daggers drawn with Wike over the control of politics and governance in the state.
