LG boss solicits support for vigilantes, volunteer security outfits

The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council of Plateau State, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven has called on the people to fully support the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) as well as all  other volunteer security outfits.

The LG boss said supporting security outfits was necessary at this point in order to free the society of criminal elements.

Speaking in Langtang during his decoration as the Plateau State patron of VGN, he said peace, security and well-being of the people remain paramount.

He noted that vigilante groups in communities should be allowed by the federal government to carry light arms so that they can effectively police their environment.

“There is an urgent need for government at the three tiers to support the Vigilante Group of Nigeria by training and empowering them to support the fight against crimes in the society.

“It is no longer news that the capacity of the Nigerian Police today cannot exhaustively curtail the rising trend of criminality and violence in the society, hence the need for community policing.

“Local vigilantes are closer to the communities and if properly engaged, they can contribute to addressing the overwhelming security challenges,” he said.

The Admin Commander of VGN, Plateau State Command, Abubakar Sadiq, said the chairman was chosen from among many others to be their  patron  because of his contribution to the growth and  development of his immediate community.

The commander said he is confident that the chairman will do creditably well as he has always done in the area of securing  lives and property in Langtang North.
