Leventis to revive Leventis United Football Club

The Leventis Foundation of Nigeria has pledged to invest more in sports development in Nigeria as well as reviving the dead Leventis United Football Club.

While speaking in Abuja at the press conference to herald Leventis Foundation Nigeria Limited’s planned 30th anniversary celebration, Chairman of the foundation Alhaji Ahmed Mantey said the company will commit more resources to sports in the coming years.

He said "we are working round the clock to ensure revival of Leventis United.

"What we are doing right now is that we are trying to reshape the whole business as a whole as we know the importance of sports to the citizens of this country.

"I have no doubt that Leventes will come back to life very soon."

It will be recalled that Leventis United, a club founded by John Mastoroudes who was the Director of Carpet Royal Nigeria Limited – an arm of the Leventis Group of Companies, were one of the top clubs in Nigeria in the 1980s.

In the 80s, Leventis was the toast of the time, having contributed to the rising and growth of many Nigeria players in the country.

Leventis won the third division in 1984 before going on to win the FA Cup in the same year.

The club also gained promotion into the first Division after winning the second division with an undefeated record- the first such feat in Nigerian football.
