The China General Chamber of Commerce Nigeria has said the full optimization of two mega projects at the Lekki Port and the Zungeru Hydropower Project will enhance Nigeria’s economy.
The chambers in a statement said the two projects will serve as good models of the Nigeria-China cooperation.
The chamber said the Lekki Port, which is the first deep sea port in Nigeria, was developed by CHEC with the Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, and completed in October of 2022 with a concession period of 45 years (three years’ construction included).
The statement said it expects the sum of $361 billion income to be generated in the period and creation of over 170,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“The Phase 1 of the multipurpose port, with an overall investment of $1.044 billion, have developed two container berths, 680 meters quay, and 16.5 meters deep channel, it is also equipped with seven ship-to-shore cranes and 21 RTG cranes; the port yard covers 20 hectares, and can accomodate 55,000 TEU,” the chambers said.
