The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in Kaura Namoda polytechnic, Zamfara State on Wednesday embarked on a protest march over what they described as pitiful infrastructural decay and overt corruption in the institution.

The chairman of the Union in the institution comrade Suraj Muhammad Funtua who briefed the newsmen shortly before they started the demonstration said the academic staff had already passed a vote of no confidence on the management of the polytechnic.

"The Congress met today and resolved to pass a vote of no confidence on the entire management of the institution because for the past 3 years there has not been accountability as to how the funds meant for the schools are being appropriated," he added.

He said there are no functional laboratories for students practicals adding that all the 8 laboratories are virtually empty and the students hostels are in a state of complete dilapidation.

No furniture in staff offices and poor supply of power because the generator is not being utilized, he added.

Reacting to the allegations, the Rector of the polytechnic Engineer Ahmad A. Luggard said before they were getting N16 to N18 million monthly but the allocation dropped and they  started receiving N6 million and had accumulated debt.

He added that, "Our major challenge is inadequate funds and we have limited power on that and the allegations that we have misappropriated N100 million is untrue and totally baseless because that  is being handled by the governing council.
