Lecturer decries discrimination against physically challenged persons

A lecturer in the Department of Special Education, Bayero University Kano, Professor Jibrin Isah Diso has expressed concern over discrimination, against people with disabilities.

Professor Diso made the disclosure at an international day of People With Disability organized by Center For Information Technology and Development (CITAD).

“People don’t want to associate themselves with physically challenged people they feel ashamed to marry one of us, we are left with no choice than to marry among ourselves. The discrimination is affecting our lives negetively.We want to be fully accepted into the society.”

Also, a lecturer in Federal College of Education Bichi, Malam Ibarhim Abdullahi expressed dismay over the discrimination against people with disabilities.

“We consider ‘alagidibo song” as a hate speech against us but yet the radio stations in the state are still airing it.”

In her speech Hajiya Bilkisu Ado Zango urged the Kano state Governor, Dr Abdulalhi Umar Ganduje to sign into law a bill meant for the protection of rights of people with disabilities.

Earlier, a manager at Centre For Information Technology and Development CITAD) Isa Garba said that the center decided to celebrate the day in order to join hands with those people with disability and other communities to solve the problems faced by them.
