Speaking after leading prayers for the Eid-el Kabir celebration, he advised politicians and people of the state to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and emulate Prophet Ibrahim in the Holy Qur’an by demonstrating love and trust in Allah.
He condemned what he called acquisition of wealth by some leaders at the expense of the people.
A Muslim member from the community, Alhaji Abdulwahab Nwabuihe, congratulated the Muslim ummah for a peaceful 2014 Sallah in Nigeria and expressed satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between Muslims and Christians in the area.
A Christian who participated in the celebration, Mr. Obese Orumezie, said the religion of their traditional ruler and chief imam had never been a problem for the community.
At the Owerri Central Mosque, the celebration witnessed a large turnout of both Muslims and non-Muslims including a delegation from Kano State.
An official of the Imo State Muslim Council, Oloru Bola Moh’d Jamiu, commended the maintenance of peace during the celebration, saying the turnout was surprising despite the security challenges in the country. He advised leaders to fulfil their electoral promises to the people.
